Harry Rountree (1878-1950) was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1878 and was educated at Queen's College, Auckland. He came to London 1901 and studied with Percival Gaskell at the Regent Street Polytechnic before getting commissions through the Editor of Little Folks. Rountree's métier was always comic animals and books for children although he undertook a certain amount of poster work. His drawings are characterised by subtle colours and fluid washes with a great accuracy of natural background.
