Léon Victor Solon

Léon Victor Solon was born in Stoke-on-Trent and was an artist, sculptor and decorator. He was privately educated and then studied at the RCA, where he was a medallist.
Solon worked at Minton & Co. as a ceramic designer from 1900-1909, following in the footsteps of his father Marc Louis Emanuel Solon who had been employed at the Sevres porcelain works, Paris. In 1901, Léon was joined at Minton by John Wadsworth and together they introduced many highly original designs to the Secessionist range. The younger Solon later travelled to the United States where he was responsible for the decoration of the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts, and published Polychromy, Architectural and Structural, New York, 1924. He is only known to have had one textile design of his produced.
